Phase II

I haven't been posting much because I have been super busy trying to move things ahead. (If you want to read older entries, click on the archives link below and to the right). I'm still doing mostly 12+ hour days, but most weekends we only do a few hours of work, so that's an improvement over the last few years. Last fall, we finished with the major work and mostly finished with contractors for now. We are now into smaller jobs with less urgency, shorter duration and less impact on our quality of life.

I actually wrote out a time table for phase II, and I have to laugh because before even a few weeks had passed, I was behind already. Our really bad contractor used to spend hours making super detailed, color coded schedules and hand them to me proudly in the morning. By the end of the day, he was already behind. I used to wonder why he couldn't just spend the few hours he spent doing the fancy schedule actually working on my house.

Here is our schedule for phase II, revised 4/28/08:

Fence slats - done
Plumber - June
Garage slatwall - June (in progress) (something like this)
Shower (need to hang curtain) - June (in progress) (a bigger project than it sounds)
Garage door - June (in progress)
Outdoor seating area - July (in progress)
Finish exterior doors - July (in progress)
Finish windows - October (in progress)
Put window trim up - December
Window shades - January 2009 (in progress) (difficult to find ones that fit the narrow depth)
Garage interior - March 2009 (in progress)
Poly drawer in bathroom - March 2009
Finish interior doors and trim - April 2009 (in progress)
Interior paint - June 2009
Flooring - September 2009 (in progress)
Landscape front yard - October 2009 (in progress)
Install cabinet handles - October 2009 (in progress)
