Week ending 10/30/09

On Monday, I spent 1.5 hours putting trim on the kitchen window. I got it done, but the change in the house is almost nothing. This is why remodeling takes so long - an hour and a half is a big chunk of time to spend with almost no visible results.

On Wednesday, I went to Lowe's for trim. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough pieces that weren't warped or damaged so I'll have to make at least one more trip. (2.5 hours)

On Thursday, I unpacked another box and can't believe how bad the garage still looks. How can I keep spending time and emptying boxes and have so little progress?

On Saturday, I spent 45 minutes sanding and finished the most recent coat of shellac.

Total hours on windows and doors to date: 319.75

(yikes that number is creeping up and I'm not close to done!)

Week ending 10/23/09

On Saturday, I spent 2.5 hours hanging window shades number 3 and 4 and they look great.

Here is the bay window in the dining room which faces the street. Shade number 2 is up on the left window and the center and right windows still have the junkyard assortment of trashbags, tape, etc.

Here are all 3 shades up (4 shades up so far in the house). Don't they look great? I absolutely love them, and the house feels much cozier and private at night with good shades. They look great from the outside as well.

We also did an OSH (hardware store run). We had a coupon and C needed supplies for the wiring project.

This week I finished the slatwall and got our recreation equipment put away. It makes my organizing geek heart sing! The thin red line is space needed for the garage door and opener and denotes areas not available for storage. This nice spot makes the rest of the garage look terrible but also makes me want to get to work on the next garage project.

On Thursday, I spent half an hour sanding. Total hours on windows and doors to date: 314.75

Week ending 10/16/09

This week we did some traveling and visited family. On Friday, I picked up the parts to replace the window parts damaged by the window washing company. I was really pissed to learn the parts have been sitting in the store's warehouse since 9/14 and not only did they not return my calls but not nobody bothered to call me either. They suck, but this is par for the course in home renovation.

Week ending 10/9/09

Nothing, absolutely nothing, happened on the house this week. C has been on vacation, and I'm preparing for a trip next week.

Week ending 10/2/09

On Saturday, I spent 3 hours putting up slatwall. I'm almost done - I just need to finish all the screws and clean up, then I get the fun of putting our recreation equipment away. I ordered some hooks on Sunday for the slatwall.

The hooks arrived Wednesday. I tried a few and they work great. I'll post some pictures when I'm done putting things away on the slatwall.

On Thursday, I unpacked another box (yeah, still unpacking from May 2006). I found some plastic bins at Costco that fit my shelves perfectly with almost no wasted space. They are a good size to organize things - they fit a good amount but are still small enough that if something needs more than one bin but doesn't fill the second there isn't a whole lot of wasted space. They are also not huge which means they aren't too heavy when full.

I spent a half an hour sanding my most recent coat of shellac and have to finish 3 interior doors to be done. Total hours on windows and doors to date: 311.75
